In 2010 I traveled to the Pilbara region of Western Australia with a band of artists from Melbourne across the continent to Yarrie Station. This experience was to turn on its head my perception of ‘painter in and of’ the landscape.
My challenge was to find the mystery of the feminine within this firey red earth landscape whose intense ‘masculine energy’ of the heat, massive rock formations erupting out of plains, wiry bearded Spinifex, and the straight ongoing line of horizon.
I found the feminine flow in the dry creek beds of red gravel, its endless flowing patterns of opening and closing forms.
I felt I had arrived home and I was wooed.
